Banty Rooster
« on: January 15, 2009, 09:10:34 PM »

Looking for a home for a young banty rooster.

I have neighbors who claim that DEQ is on it's way to make me get rid of my chickens.
All of them apparently. All two of them!

I have found a home for the hen, and need a home for the rooster. I prefer he not
be dinner.  Is there flock out there for him. He's young, capable, and ready to protect a flock.

contact me at this address if interested: [email protected]

Thanks, Peg

Peggy:
Hi, I posted at recycle page before I saw this... Darn, you got rid of the hen.  I've been looking for a banty for my flock.  They are suppose to be good egg sitters.  I have roosters so sorry, I can't take your guy.  I hope you can find a home for him.  Why can't you have chickens?  Don't you live out in the country?  My chickens are spoiled rotten....If you hear of another banty hen that needs a home, please think of me. I want to start raising baby chicks.

If the person with the hen changes his/her mind, please let me know.  Take care.  By the way, are you going to Garden show next week?

Well,

First, I found a home that will take both chickens together.  Looks like I'm running them to Rice Hill.  :) Thank you, and I will keep you in mind if I hear of another Banty being available.

I think the neighbor is complaining due to noise.  I had dogs attack my chickens a month and half ago or so.  I had one that I had hoped would live, and I put a heat lamp out in the coop. Naturally the Rooster crowed all night.  Then we had that cold spell, and since now all my chickens were dead by the two I left (dogs killed 6 of my 8 chickens) the light on so the two could keep warm... the hen was still a baby at the time... still peeping even!  Of course, the Rooster crows all night.

Then, I Forgot I was leaving the light on and left it on, and the Rooster is still crowing all night.

Eventually when the neighbor and I have both cooled off, I'll have chickens again.  I will wait until I have a coop that is DOG PROOF!  And Hawk proof, and I guess I won't have a rooster.  And yes, I live in an unincorporated area in the county.

It might have been a threat full of hot air. But the bottom line is that there are only two chickens left, and I know they will be happier with other chickens...hence the thought of trying to find them a flock where they will be happy.

I personally like Arcanda's (I think I spelled that wrong). And I sure had good layers in my Buffs, and my one mama Buff was a great mom.

I will let you know if the lady changes her mind and doesn't want the chickens.  :)

Hey Peggy, I ended up adding 5 more hens to the flock and the end of this year something got all 7 of them?  I got home to feathers? It was very upsetting?  I assume it was an animal of some sort but I didn't see tracks or anything? How is everything?

I'm so sorry to hear about the chickens, Dee.  As you know two little tiny dogs got mine.  But, there are some sort of birds of prey that got some of my chicks too, so who knows.  And yes, it is VERY upsetting.  I attached myself to mine, they were my pets.  Each had it's own little personality.  I was heartbroken.

Things here are up and down.  Having a bi polar son is no ride in the park.  In general though things keep looking up, and I won't complain! hahaha!!

You know, like everyone else, with this economy, I could complain.  But, the reality is, there isn't much to complain about.  We have each other, we are doing fairly well.
Thank you so much for asking.
